The city's “smart” initiatives began in 2015. The current use of sensors for pollution monitoring, but also the application of smart technologies in the construction and waste management sector and the numerous educational campaigns promoted by the city, have favored the achievement of the following objectives:

• the recovery of 1.64 million tons of municipal solid waste;

• a 7.8% reduction in the electricity consumption of government buildings;

• a reduction of the overall carbon footprint of 35%.

It should also be noted that the data relating to the measurement of temperature, humidity and air quality throughout the city are made available in Smart Environment dashboards accessible to the public.

In the project carried out by the city “Hong Kong Smart City Blueprint” are involved initiatives of: Smart Mobility, Smart Living, Smart Environment, Smart People, Smart Government and Smart Economy.

Hong Kong aims to become a world-renowned smart city with a thriving economy and high standard of living.
